Mentorship – Arts & Creative Practice
Soho House Barcelona – Routes In
After more than three decades working across the art world — galleries, collections, international collaborations and complex cultural projects — I occasionally offer mentorship within the broader cultural field.
While my foundation is in contemporary art, my experience spans the wider cultural ecosystem: positioning, networks, institutions, visibility and long-term sustainability. From the outside the creative industries may appear fluid and informal. In practice they operate through structures of trust, reputation and access.
Mentorship is therefore something I offer selectively and when the context feels meaningful.
In 2025–2026 I participated as a mentor in the Soho Mentorship Programme, run by Routes In in partnership with Soho House. The programme operates across several European cities, including Barcelona, and connects established professionals with emerging creatives from underrepresented or lower socioeconomic backgrounds.
Routes In is a non-profit foundation dedicated to redistributing opportunity within the creative industries. In collaboration with Soho House Barcelona and the wider Soho House network, the programme creates structured access to knowledge, networks and confidence-building.
During this cycle I mentored a young Brazilian singer based in Barcelona — Nnamany — part of a new generation navigating identity, authorship and international positioning in a rapidly shifting cultural landscape. Due to an unexpected change within the programme, I also temporarily took on a second mentee when another mentor became unavailable. Nicole Reyes a film maker from the Dominican Republic.
Our conversations moved beyond discipline. We discussed voice, authorship, strategic direction, exposure and longevity.
This, in my view, is what mentorship in the arts should be: not instruction, but calibration.
Creative fields reward talent, but they ultimately run on clarity, positioning and resilience. Structured dialogue can accelerate the understanding of how these systems actually function.
The mentorship cycle has now concluded.
